Tetraneuris scaposa grows in the southwestern and south-central United States (from Colorado and Nebraska to Texas and New Mexico, Map) and northern Mexico (south to San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas). It is found in prairies, pastures, hillsides and roadsides, 100-2,400 m. This is a perennial herb 15-40 cm in height, with as many as fifty stems. Leaves all basal, spatulate or linear, entire or toothed. Heads 1-50 per plant, each with 12-26 yellow ray florets surrounding 25-180 disc florets. This species blooms from March to November.
